I cherish this page with great pleasure ..... It features drawings of Douwe Dabbert, created by well-known and unknown artists / illustrators, as a gesture to me as a loyal and fervent Douwe Dabbert fan.
I am therefore very grateful to these 800+ artists / illustrators.
Below you will see:
A carousel with a selection of the drawings that I have already received;
The world map, with those countries marked in light green where the artists come from whom I have received or been promised a drawing;
The countries, sorted in alphabetical order by car country code, with the names of the respective artists;
The drawings themselves in alphabetical order by the name of the respective artist.
( ) = drawing received, ( ) = drawing promised

The characters and the city in the illustration come from my comic “The World of Fenris”; the city is Durn. The characters are Jenna (the blonde warrior on the left of the illustration), Jack (the cowboy with the hat), Sombra (the dog), Ralph (the white rabbit with the hood who talks to Douwe Dabbert), and finally Rachel (the blonde girl with the glasses), the main character of "El Mundo de Fenris".
The idea behind the illustration is that Douwe Dabbert is lost in Durn (a city in the world of Fenris) and Ralph is trying to show him the way.
The illustration was drawn with traditional pencil and inked with traditional markers; the coloring is digital.

Soft pastels on paper
The image can be interpreted as a quiet reflection on the balance between inner peace and a rapidly changing world. Douwe Dabbert, a timeless figure, stands in a lush garden next to the meditating Buddha. They are figures of simplicity and contemplation.
The Buddha represents inner peace, awareness, and the ability to remain still, while Douwe symbolizes the human journey through changing times. Their presence together creates an interesting dialogue between innocence and wisdom.
Behind the rapidly changing urban development of the modern city, the built environment is visible. The buildings are not portrayed entirely as negative, but their presence feels intrusive amid the garden’s serenity. It suggests how quickly urban development can transform spaces that once offered people the opportunity to pause for a moment and connect with nature.
The painting therefore poses a quiet question: as our cities grow and our environment changes, can we preserve the inner garden within ourselves?
Rather than being a confrontation between nature and development, the image becomes a meditation on finding peace amid change.

I approached the two works as distinct interpretations of the character. For this one, I imagined Douwe in a more fairy-tale-like setting, alongside figures from my own visual vocabulary.
The boy and the little elephant are original characters from an as-yet-unpublished story I am currently working on. This illustration shows an early visual concept of the boy; his final design is still very much a work in progress.
For this tribute, I devised a brief encounter taking place outside the original story: my two young adventurers unexpectedly cross paths with Douwe Dabbert, a traveler from a completely different fictional world. The idea of briefly bringing these separate fictional worlds together appealed to me.
Pegah Heidarpoor (PL) - 2
14 September 2026
This is a more playful interpretation, in which Douwe finds himself in a modern world that feels unfamiliar to him.
For this piece, I imagined Douwe Dabbert unexpectedly stepping into a modern world of my own invention. Rather than depicting a realistic, contemporary setting, I wanted to create a playful, imagined version of modern life using my own visual style.
I was interested in the contrast between Douwe—a seasoned traveler from a different narrative world—and a place that feels completely alien to him. The illustration thus became a little "what if?" moment: what would happen if a seasoned character suddenly entered a strange, modern world shaped by someone else's imagination?

Douwe Dabbert with Alain and the ghost Mami Wata
The illustration was created entirely digitally. I employed digital drawing and painting techniques, focusing primarily on the colors, textures, and the overall atmosphere of the scene.
I imagined showing Douwe around a sacred forest. Here in Cameroon, we have a rich culture and countless traditions linked to sacred forests, so I wanted to incorporate a piece of our culture into this illustration.
During his visit, Douwe encounters a ghost. For this character, I drew inspiration from African horror figures and local stories—specifically the mysterious entities that terrify people in certain films and folktales.
I also included traditional masks inspired by various African cultures. The two figures hiding behind the tree symbolize this cultural and mysterious aspect of the scene.
Finally, the forest itself is inspired by the sacred forests found here. I wanted to create an atmosphere that was mysterious, culturally rich, and slightly eerie, while also showing Douwe a part of my world and culture.

Douwe Dabbert in Brandenburg (Aquarel)
My goal was to integrate the drawn figure into my minimalist landscape style.
The story: Douwe has just left a small village in Brandenburg and is walking along a typical sandy country lane (the landscape was shaped by the last major ice age, and the glaciers left behind many lakes and sandy deposits).
Where is he heading? Off to the next adventure. That was the idea.
The landscape was created on 300g watercolor paper using the wet-on-wet technique, with Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolors. I used a palette knife to drag the tree trunks and grasses into the paper while it was still damp.
I painted Douwe using Lukas gouache. The white of his hair was a crucial element—hence the mixed-media approach.

I chose to depict Douwe Dabbert as a firefighter in Borneo because forest and wildfires are a serious problem in Indonesia—something I hope more people will become aware of. I also hope that this artwork will reach people outside of Indonesia and help raise awareness about the importance of forest conservation and the need to take these fires seriously.

About the boy and the dog: the boy is my first character I created myself. His name is Ray, a teenager who loves a hat he got from his mother. In my drawing, he is 5 years old. He is actually quite a troublemaker, but he softens when he meets someone nice. That is why I drew him in a deep sleep, because he feels peaceful next to the kind-hearted Douwe Dabbert. This appears to be heavily inspired by the ancient Maya city of Tikal in Guatemala.
The large stepped pyramids in the middle of the jungle landscape, with temples on top, are typical of Tikal and other Maya cities such as El Mirador or Uxmal. The central high temple in the drawing, in particular, is very reminiscent of the famous temple pyramids of Tikal.
This is an imaginative comic illustration based on the Maya civilization, rather than an exact historical reconstruction.

The drawing was made on brown paper, A4, 270 g/m²
Sketched with blue animation film pencil, finished neat with black brush pen and worked up with white pencil; extra shadows were done with a grey marker.
The ‘sweetheart’ next to Dauwe is a female Sphinx who enjoys his plucking…
Normally, this sphinx should have a beautiful bare bosom, but we kept it modest… considering the young readers of the series.
The instrument is something different from the flute for a change; I thought it suited him well (who knows what else is in there in his knapsack).
Because it is a night vision device, he needs lighting… a beautiful fairy lantern seemed like a good fit for him.

The drawing was created digitally. For the coloring, I used a digital watercolor brush to create the atmosphere of a traditional drawing, combined with digital elements so that my own style comes through clearly.

Medium/technique: it is a hand-drawn sketch with digital watercolor paint. I first made the sketch in pencil and then colored it digitally in Photoshop. You could describe it as "Digital watercolor paint".

Douwe Dabbert and Squid Ninja
The theme is global harmony and friendship, and I created and expressed the encounter between my original character, Squid Ninja, dressed in Kabuki attire (a unique Japanese cultural element), and Douwe Dabbert, in a Ukiyo-e style.
First, I drew a rough sketch on paper with a pencil, then scanned it and digitally traced it on my iPad using an Apple Pencil.
After that, I transferred the traced data to my computer and converted it to two-tone and then vector data in Adobe Illustrator before coloring.
Finally, I used Adobe Photoshop to slightly roughen the image to complete it.
