Publishing house De Meulder was founded in 1978 and at first focused entirely on the world of comics.
The first decade was mainly devoted to the production of the comics information magazine Striprofiel. With a small circle of employees, the publisher managed to grow the magazine from a stenciled publication to a leading magazine in just a few years.
While the issues of Striprofiel became thicker and nicer, publisher Maarten de Meulder became more and more interested in the work of Paulus author Jean Dulieu. From this specialization and the fact that he managed to gain an understanding with the artist for the purpose of his collection, the Paulus Archives eventually came into being.
Around 1990, he decided to let the publishing house go along with this. All ongoing productions such as the book series and the comics information magazine were discontinued and from then on De Meulder focused entirely on the work of Jean Dulieu.
